Every business owner should have a set of strategies that they develop and implement to move ever closer to success.
Of course, I always recommend that you take a few moments and define what success will mean for you. After all, how will you know if you achieved success if you don’t know what it looks like? Oh and don’t cheat by just saying success is more money. Really take some time to decide what success will look and feel like.
Hopefully you are already thinking about your success. This is a fantastic start.
...
1. Develop your brand essence.
Your brand essence communicates to the world what your business stands for and the type of business you are. This goes much deeper than just your brand name. Your brand essence is the personality of your business.
2. Expose yourself.
No, I am not suggesting that you work in the nude. Heck, I hardly know you. I am suggesting that you and your business will benefit from finding some positive exposure that fits with your brand essence. Take on projects that stretch your boundaries and imagination. You will be amazed at the inspiration you find in these types of projects.
3. Be disciplined.
Okay, get your mind out of the gutter. What you do on your time is your business but when we are talking about business it pays to exercise a little discipline. Discipline is the driver of excellence. Many are gifted and talented but business is won by merging those gifts, talents and ideas with discipline. Discipline breeds consistency in execution. This is where success is often found or lost.
4. Business is a full contact sport.
I could write a whole book about this topic alone. No one is truly successful by themselves. We humans are social creatures. Relationships are valuable and great relationships are even more valuable. Get in the habit of developing and nourishing relationships. The more diverse the relationships the better. Make relationship-building part of each day. There will come a time when you will be glad that you put the effort into building those relationships.
5. Everyone can share a lesson. Make sure you learn from others.
I am always amazed at the number of lessons that we can learn from each other when we are open to learning. There are smart people out there and they have something to teach us. There are people who have faced challenges and they have something to teach us. The most expensive lesson we will ever learn is the one we have to experience ourselves. If we are receptive to the educational opportunities that surround us, we can save ourselves time and money by learning the lessons without facing the challenges first hand. Keep your ears and eyes open.
I am going to let this sink in with you but please watch this space for the second installment of Success Strategies.
Until the next time, I wish you much success, however you define it.
