It is the constant that your staff will rally around. Businesses that operate without a mission end up being reactive and aimless. A clear and strong mission gives a business direction and purpose.
7. Manage things and lead people.
This may be a difficult concept but if you think about it, people are at the core of our business. Things like inventory and process are the types of things we manage. People require something a bit more sophisticated than simply being managed. People need inspiration, expectations, evaluations and leadership. Strong leadership will bring out the best in your staff.
8. Work smart - hire right and hire tough.
You can save yourself and your business a lot of heartache if you spend the necessary time and effort in surrounding yourself with the right people. To be certain this is no easy task but the effort is well worth it when you consider that the alternative of hiring the wrong staff can cost your business its very survival. In short, know what your business needs. Interview and test for the skills that will move you closer to your goals.
9. Plan your work.
We are faced with all manner of distractions and it is easy lose sight of the things that are really necessary to moving forward. If you take time each day to think about what you want to accomplish and commit it to writing you will be less likely to succumb to distractions. As a side benefit you will also find that you get more accomplished in a shorter amount of time.

In this sense, each day will become a building block and your plans will become more effective.
